dWORKING TEMPERMENT EVALUATION

OBEDIENCE

THE FOLLOWING EXERCISES ARE TO BE PERFORMED BY ALL DOGS WISHING TO OBTAIN A WTE CERTIFICATION.

The dog shall wear either a fur saver or choke chain with leash attached to the dead ring. Leashes must be 6ft in length. All leashes and collars must be inspected and deemed suitable by a NWDA Official prior to beginning each test. 

The test is pass or fail however it is based on 50 points, a minimum of 30 points is achieved in order to pass this test. Additionally each dog will be evaluated with regard to its temperament. Any dog may not test may not test more than once on any given day.

Each individual exercise begins with the basic position (dog at a sit at handlers side). The judge will signal handler to begin each exercise.

Exercise 1: Heeling on Leash (20 point exercise)
 
From the basic position handler gives “heel” command, handler and dog walk straight ahead a minimum of 10 paces and execute a left hand turn and continues for a minimum of 10 paces and executes a right hand turn and continues for another 10 paces after which handler halts. 

Exercise 2: Stay with Recall (10 point exercise)

Handler gives “sit” or “down” command upon completion handler gives “stay” command. Handler walks to end of 6ft leash turns and faces the dog. At judges signal handler recalls dog.  

Exercise 3: Greeting Stranger (10 point exercise)

Handler and dog execute left hand turn and heel up to a stranger who will greet and shake the hand of handler. Dog must display neutral or friendly reaction to stranger. Stranger leaves.

Exercise 4: Heeling on Leash (10 point exercise)

Handler and dog execute right hand turn and walk straight ahead for a minimum of 20 paces. Exercise complete



PROTECTION

Exercise 1:  Surprise Attack

Upon signal from the judge, handler and dog walk straight ahead to a point of approximately 15ft from blind. The judge will instruct the decoy to come out of blind and attack the handler, upon which the handler will give dog the full leash while still holding the end. The dog should engage the decoy. Decoy will briefly fight the dog. Upon judges signal the decoy will freeze up. The judge will then instruct the handler to out the dog. Exercise complete

50 TOTAL POINTS ARE POSSIBLE WITH A MINIMUM OF 30 POINTS TO PASS
